Hong Kong police probe death of man, 80, allegedly knocked down by taxi driver插图

Hong Kong police are investigating the death of an 80-year-old man allegedly knocked down by a taxi driver in a traffic accident in Kwun Tong.

The force said on Saturday that the cab driver, a 46-year-old man, was travelling along Kwun Tong Road on Friday night when he was believed to have struck the pedestrian near Ngau Tau Kok Road.

The elderly man was reportedly crossing the road at the time.

Police said the victim sustained serious injuries to his head and limbs and lost consciousness. He was declared dead at 10.37pm at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei.

The taxi driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death and was detained as part of the force’s investigation.

Police’s Kowloon East special investigation team for traffic is handling the case. The force has called for any witnesses to contact officers at 3661 0259.
