China’s anti-corruption watchdog has detailed how disgraced former banker and Communist Party chief of Hubei province Jiang Chaoliang received bribes for favours, ultimately landing himself and his brothers under investigation.

The revelations came in an episode of a CCTV documentary series that aired on Tuesday night during the fifth plenary session of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

Held at the beginning of each year, the session aims to sum up the achievements of President Xi Jinping’s sweeping anti-corruption campaign and lay out areas to focus on in the new year.

On Wednesday, the closing communique of the plenary session called for maintaining “high-pressure deterrence” against corruption.

It said that “new and hidden forms of corruption” would be targeted.

It also pledged that anti-corruption authorities would “intensify efforts to investigate cross-border corruption cases” and cooperate with the top legislature in formulating a law against cross-border corruption.
