Temperatures in Hong Kong are expected to drop to as low as 12 degrees Celsius (53.6 Fahrenheit) on Wednesday due to an incoming northeasterly monsoon, according to the city’s weather forecaster.

The Hong Kong Observatory said temperatures on Sunday ranged from 14 to 19 degrees Celsius, while a fresh surge of the northeast monsoon would reach the coast of southern mainland China on Monday.

“It will become cold over the region midweek this week. The weather will be persistently fine and very dry with [a] rather large temperature difference between day and night,” it said.

Strengthening northerly winds will bring a low of 13 degrees on Tuesday, with the cold, dry weather dropping to 12 degrees over the following two days.

“[The weather will be] mainly fine [on Monday]. It will still be cool in the morning. The temperature difference between day and night will be rather large [and become] cold progressively in the following couple of days. It will be fine and very dry,” the Observatory said.
