A spokesman for the Immigration Department said on Friday that it had received “a relevant inquiry” and was in touch with the Chinese consulate in Bandar Abbas and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ local arm in the city.
A source confirmed that the inquiry came from the family of a young female traveller who could not be contacted in Iran.
A social media post by a travel blogger known as “Bing” gained traction on Thursday, where a user named “hmting” commented below that Bing was her sister and had gone missing.

The Threads post, published on January 6, featured a short compilation video of Bing’s journey in Iran, showing photos and a collection of short film clips of her and people she had met.
