Hourly services at Hong Kong’s first automated public car park have partially resumed following a suspension of operations for an urgent system update just two days after its debut.

In a reply to the Post, the Architectural Services Department said on Friday that hourly parking services for larger vehicles had resumed at noon, while those for private cars would begin again shortly.

The department said it was aware of the instability of the car parking system on Tong Yin Street in Tseung Kwan O, and had tasked the contractor that built its hardware and software to upgrade the system.

This meant hourly services were suspended from December 31, just two days after the car park debuted. The suspension does not affect monthly parking services.

The department said that before the launch of the car park, the relevant authorities and the contractor had tested the automated parking system using various scenarios.

During the latest system upgrade, the department said the contractor had already assigned additional personnel to support the car park’s operator, which is a separate company.

“The relevant government authorities are closely coordinating with the contractor in hopes that the services will be resumed totally soon,” the department said.
