US President Donald Trump engaged in a flurry of high-stakes diplomacy on Saturday as military strikes and Iranian retaliation intensified, holding urgent calls across the Middle East and Europe to coordinate a response to the escalating conflict with Iran.
The White House said he spoke with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar, as well as Mark Rutte, secretary general of Nato, but has not said when Trump will meet the press.
Earlier in the day, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Trump and his national security team “will continue to closely monitor the situation throughout the day”.

The White House has not said when Trump will next take questions from the press about the strikes or communicate with leaders in Europe and the Middle East.

More than 200 people have been killed across Iran, according to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, the country’s primary humanitarian and emergency response organisation.

Several senior Iranian officials were reportedly killed in what US media described as a “massive and on-going” joint military assault by the United States and Israel, though accounts of the damage to Iran’s leadership remain sharply contested.
